What is Kundli?

A Janam Kundli, also known as a Vedic birth chart or natal horoscope, is an astrological snapshot of the sky at the exact moment and place of your birth.

In Vedic astrology (Jyotish Shastra) the position of the Navagrahas, the nine planets, across the 12 signs (Rashis) and 12 houses (Bhavas) is read together with the 27 lunar mansions (Nakshatras) to understand temperament, relationships, work and the timing of life's phases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your date of birth, the time of birth and the place of birth. The place sets the latitude, longitude and timezone used in the calculation.
The positions come from an astronomical calculation, so they are only as accurate as the birth details you enter. Even a few minutes of difference in birth time can change the Ascendant, so use the time from a birth certificate or hospital record where you can.
You can tick "I don't know the exact time" and we will use 12:00 noon. The Ascendant, the houses and possibly the Moon's sign may then be inaccurate, so treat the chart as indicative only.
Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which accounts for the gradual shift of the equinoxes, so most planets fall in a different sign than in the tropical zodiac used in Western astrology. It also gives special importance to the Moon and the nakshatras.
